Partly prompted by growing up in the Presbyterian Church of Queensland (PCQ) and experiencing the split in the Presbyterian Church of Australia over church union in 1977, and partly from an appreciation of the forgotten work of Scottish benefactor Andrew Stewart for the PCQ, the speaker has sought to understand better the reasons for the strength of evangelicalism in the PCQ leading up to the 1973 vote on church union.
